It has often been said, but it is worth repeating, that bending forward at the waist should be avoided and that picking up should always take place by keeping the upper body straight and bending at the knees. This is a difficult technique to master at first, and people often forget it, but to avoid back pain developing, it should be practiced until it comes naturally. What’s more, cleaning the bath and making the beds should be done in a kneeling position.
