    Great changes have taken place in a Chinese rural family from 2007 to 2012. The average monthly income of a rural family increases from 253 yuan in 2007 to 480 yuan in 2012. Since this is a sizable increase, rural residents’ consumption expenditures are also changing.
    Rural residents in 2012 spend more money on clothing and housing, especially on articles for daily use, and less on food, which shows a rapid rise in their material living standard. They are not satisfied with the previous living conditions any more. They desire to live a more comfortable and better-off life.
    However, the amount of money they spend on entertainment has a little change, only from 2% to 3% of the total income, which indicates either rural residents attach little importance to their cultural life or enjoying a play or film is regarded as a special treat because there are few theaters and cinemas in the area. So local governments should provide more chances of entertainment, and help to improve their cultural background.
