    As is vividly indicated in the above tables, nowadays, with the development of modern industry and economy, more and more countries are concerned about the problem of global shortage of fresh water. In the year 2012, according to the international standard of water shortage, only America and Canada in the table are not on the list of water shortage. There is one that is extremely short of fresh water.
    Some people think that fresh water is inexhaustible; nevertheless, fresh water resources are scarce. The reasons for global shortage of fresh water are as follows. Firstly, with the growth of world population and industry development, man’s needs for fresh water have been increasing. Secondly, water pollution all over the world makes things worse.
    From the changes reflected in the tables, we can see it is quite urgent that effective measures be taken to tackle the problem. For one thing, everyone should save water consciously in their daily life. For another, regulations should be laid down by the government to curb water pollution. Perhaps people cannot rely on one way to solve the problem completely.
