M: What’s the difference between a translator and an interpreter?
W: (22)The interpreter serves as a medium between two different people and it’s done spoken. Translators work on their own and they translate documents and sometimes they use dictionaries. But interpreters follow people and they translate from one language to another for two people who don’t speak the same common language.
M: OK. What languages do you interpret?
W: (23)I do English, French and Italian.
M: Can you do any combination? I mean, do one language to another.
W: Yes. That is the routine work for an interpreter.
M: Wow, that’s pretty amazing. What language are you most comfortable with?
W: I’m most comfortable with English but also French because I grew up in a French province. (24)But I feel more comfortable with English than with French.
M: What’s the best thing about being an interpreter?
W: Well, (25) the best thing is the fact that you meet different types of people and you know what everybody is talking about. You never feel left out because you’re the one who has to transfer the information.
M: Sounds cool. And interpreter is a really fun job because sometimes you can also accompany people to fun places like to parties, restaurants and train stations. You can be a tour guide and do lots of really fun things just because you speak the languages which they don’t. Moreover, you can eat nice food and they pay for that, right?
