Punctuality
- Do you think it is important to be punctual for appointments? Why or why not?
Definitely, it’s important to be on time for appointments. In modern world, no one lives alone. Appointment involves you and other people. If any party doesn’t show up on time, it affects other people’s arrangements, or even end up failing the whole plan. Modern society can’t tolerate such low efficiency. And time is life for everyone. Keeping other people waiting is, in some sense, taking away their life.
- What do you think about people who are always late?
I don’t want to deal with such people. Waiting for somebody without further notice will make me anxious or even angry. I’ll assume that they may not take this appointment serious enough, so they do with our relationship. When being late becomes their habit, I tend to think these people lack self-control as well as respect to social etiquette. It would be hard for these people to win other’s trust or impression in a positive way.
- Normally how do people make excuses when they are late?
Well, it differs from people to people. When it comes to making excuses, people are much more imaginative and creative than they are in study, especially those who are late for classes. The most common clumsy excuses, I think, are stomachache, traffic jam, helping the elderly cross the road, the alarm failed to work, and my mother didn’t wake me up, stuff like that. Sometimes, teachers are convinced, but most of the times, they had to be punished for repeating the same excuses so many times.
The effects of technology
- Do you think modern technology has made people lazy?
Yes, I do think the modern technology has changed people’s behaviours in many ways. People become lazier than before. In the past, people enjoyed playing with each other outdoors, travelling, camping, and playing footballs or alike. Nowadays, however, we are spoiled and stuck by various electronic entertainment indoors. We are no longer willing to step outside to breathe the fresh air. Instead, we choose to become nerds obsessed by cell phones and computers. For example, we can order foods on cell phone so that we don’t have to get out and fetch food. Just move your fingers, then the food will arrive in a minute. If this trend continues, people may degenerate and are not willing to take a single move.
- What do you think about modern technology for young people and old people?
I think the effect varies between the young people and the old. As for young generation, they are raised in a world filled with modern technology. And this technology have been accessible to them since they are little. Therefore, this technology has fundamentally integrated into their life style and become an indispensable part in their lives. Young people are good at utilising advanced technology to make their lives easier, broaden their horizon and social circle, and become more creative in the artistic or practical world. On the other hand, however, old people seem to have a hard time in getting used to the modern technology. They are more in favour of the old life style without pressing fancy buttons or logging in digital accounts. For old people, changes brought by modern technology are not as profound as those presented on young generation, but they do, compared to previous generations, enjoy various benefits in medical and health care aided by new technology.
- How has modern technology changed people’s lives for the better?
Well, I do admit that there are countless benefits brought by modern technology. Just as I mentioned above, it facilitates our daily life. For example, high-speed trains can take us almost everywhere. Cell phone enables us to connect with people no matter when or where. Computer helps us enhance work efficiency. We can do things with less effort compared to the old days. It empowers us to learn fast, manage better and know more. However, we should still carefully make use of the good things about modern technology while keep an eye on the shortcomings of it so as to make sure human are the master of modern technology instead of the slave of it.
