W: Hi, Ian. You send that internship application to Engulph Corp yet?
M: Uhhhh, no. It’s getting to be a real problem.
W: How’s that?
M: I need a letter of recommendation in less than twenty-four hours. But I have exams all day tomorrow and an economics paper to finish tonight. There’s just no time to get one.
W: You’re doing that paper for Professor John, right? Have him write you the letter? He’s a good guy. Plus he knows your work.
M: No good. He’s got things to do, too. He has to finish all his grading and pack his stuff because he is going to another university next semester.
W: OK, so just send everything off to the corporation and hope for the best. If you’re lucky, they’ll think they lost your letter!
M: Bad idea. This is a big, high-powered corporation. There’s no way they’ll even consider me if I forget something like that letter. It’s required!

I believe the only good choice here is to ask the professor for the letter, because no corporation would consider a candidate who cannot even submit the required documents such as the recommendation letter. True, the professor is busy. But writing a letter like this is a common chore and would take little time. The student can also remind the professor to write something like how many classes he had with the professor and his performance in the classes.
