You will now listen to a conversation. You will then be asked a question about it. After you hear the question, you will have 20 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.
Question: The speakers discuss two possible solutions to the man’s problem. Describe the problem and the two solutions. Then explain what you think the man should do and why.
W: Kevin, you look worried. What happened?
M: Hi, I barely slept last night. I have to do something to stay awake for class.
W: Why not try going to bed earlier?
M: That’s not the problem. I have never slept well, ever since I moved into my dorm room. It’s right next to the stairs. All night long people are walking, or running, up and down the stairs. Plus a lot of them talk loud or shout.
W: So change to another dorm. That’s what I did last year when I had the same problem.
M: No way! My two roommates are the coolest guys on campus. That’s why I moved there. There’s no way I’d leave my friends!
W: I guess I understand. So just wait till the end of the semester and move to a room far away from the stairs.
M: That might be a good idea, but even if I can move to somewhere else next semester, I am still living in my dorm for now. The new semester just started. That means I won’t get a good night’s sleep for the next three months!

答案
The man in the conversation faces a problem that his dorm room is right beside the stairs and he cannot sleep well because of the noise from people walking or running up and down the stairs.
His friend suggests that he either move immediately, or change rooms at the end of the semester.
Personally speaking, the man should move to another dorm immediately. True, he will lose the roommates he values so much. But good times with friends are not nearly as important as effective study and good health. If he is truly lucky, his friends will move with him. However, if he stays, he will face a whole semester without proper sleep. Both his health and study will be affected.
解析
题目中考生应重点把握学生的问题,即学生的宿舍靠近楼梯,太吵影响睡眠。在文中则是I have never slept well, ever since I moved into my dorm room.
