问题  You will now listen to a conversation. You will then be asked a question about it. After you hear the question, you will have 20 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.
Question: The speakers discuss two possible solutions to the man’s problem. Describe the problem and the two solutions. Then explain what you think the man should do and why.
W: Hey Raymond, you look anxious. What’s up, buddy?
M: My friend Victor is supposed to drive me to the airport, but he is late! He promised to be here at 11:00 and it’s 11:27. He still hasn’t shown up! I need to be there by 1:00 if I’m going to get my flight!
W: Oh, that’s not good. But it’s still not really too bad. Just hop on a bus.
M: Thanks, I don’t think that’s a good idea though, because I’ll have to go all the way downtown and transfer to another bus. There’s time, but not much to spare. On top of that, look at the size of this suitcase! I can barely move it. It’d be too much trouble on a bus.
W: So take a taxi. Easy. As convenient as Victor’s car and a lot more reliable.
M: More expensive! I mean, I can afford it. But I have some big plans for my Spring Break trip and I can’t afford to go wasting money. Dang it! Where is my friend? He should have been here already!

答案 The man in the conversation faces a problem that his friend is supposed to take him to the airport. Unfortunately, his friend is late.
There are two solutions to the problem. The man can either take a bus or take a taxi.
Personally speaking, I prefer the second solution, because taking a bus is not only time consuming but also troublesome since he needs to transfer to another bus and also carry his big and heavy suitcase with him. Plus, the bus is slow and might run out of time since it stops all the time on the road. Therefore, he should take a taxi. Although it’s expensive, it’s fast and he can arrive at the airport on time. From what I know, many students take part-time jobs at college and make enough for their tuition and living expenses. Paying for the taxi fare should not be a big deal for him.
Personally speaking, I believe the man should take a bus, because he wants to save some money in order to enjoy himself on Spring Break. Since any taxi to the airport costs quite a bit, taking the bus is clearly the less costly course. Although the bus is slower than the taxi, he seems to still have enough time traveling to the airport.

解析     题目中考生应重点把握学生的问题,即本来要送该学生去机场的同学迟到了。在文中则是My friend is supposed to ride me to the airport, but he is late!
