答案     Younger children nowadays are learning a lot of subjects in schools, such as math, language, science and history. It has been proposed by some people that they should be required to study art and music as well. From my point of view, this is a good proposition because younger children would benefit much from art and music.
    To begin with, younger children usually have a high level of creativity, likely to create things in ways that adults are not able to. As we all know, art and music are all about creativity. Younger children can exhibit their talents in these two subjects more than in others such as math and history, which are more about logic and facts. Therefore, learning arts and music at a young age is a very suitable choice. These two subjects would also be a very good complement to the current curriculum. The two subjects provide the rare opportunities for young children to show their personalities and preferences. They can, not only be beneficial to the well-being of young children, but also help teachers and parents learn more about the children and thus be more informed about how to educate and guide them.
    In the context of today’s pre-school and primary school education, younger children are facing more pressure. Parents are anxious that their children are lagging behind, so they are eager to ask their children to learn more ’useful’ subjects such as math and language in advance. However, it would probably be in vain because younger children may not be intellectually prepared for the heavy learning tasks at their age. On the contrary, art and music classes in schools may help relieve pressure. What’s more, children can also develop some hobbies in these two areas and even find their real interests.
    Some people may argue that adding these two subjects would increase the burden of young children, but in fact, art and music are more about appreciation and happiness. Unlike other subjects where there are objective criteria to judge what is right and what is wrong, art and music have no right and wrong. When younger children are taught art and music, learning how to appreciate beauty, they would be free from extra pressure caused by exam results. The enhancement of aesthetics ability is also complementary to the overall improvement of the education level of citizens.
