答案     Pursuing happiness is a life-long goal. lt has been proposed that one’s job has greater effect on his or her overall happiness than his or her social life does. l agree with this opinion based on the following reasons.
    Firstly, on average, one spends 8 hours a day and 5 days a week at work, which adds up to about 2,000 hours a year, excluding two weeks’ public holidays. This is a long period of time in one’s life. If one feels miserable about his or her job, then he or she is likely to bring this mood to personal life due to the long time spent on work, in comparison, one usually spends less time on social life. Therefore, on overall happiness, the influence of work seems to be greater than that of one’s social life.
    Secondly, work can bring people a unique sense of satisfaction, which will significantly improve people’s overall happiness. In moments when people accomplish a difficult task or achieve their career goals, they will experience a kind of happiness that cannot be replaced by any happiness coming from family and friends. The happiness obtained from work is unique because it is closely related to the meaning of life. It is an answer to the efforts people have been making in their lives every day. It evidences people’s capability, value and contribution to the society and can only be gained through work.
    Admittedly, social life is also a key factor contributing to one’s overall happiness. Spending some quality time with family and friends and getting to know some new friends are beneficial to one’s well-being. The love that comes from family and friendship makes one feel that he or she is not left out in this busy modern world. The happiness gained from social life is like a pinch of salt: it can spice up a meal when one needs it. But work remains the main dish of one’s life. Social life also resembles a bowl of chicken soup: one knows it is there when he or she needs to be healed. But after that, an individual will still have to face the problems and achieve goals by himself or herself. Given the reasons above, I think that social life plays a subsidiary role in shaping one’s overall happiness, on which work has a greater influence.
