   旅游是交流文化、增进友谊的桥梁。旅游业消耗资源少，就业机会多，是名副其实的朝阳产业。旅游能锻炼人的身体，又能开阔眼界。我们中国人常说，读万卷书，行万里路。中国是一个拥有悠久历史的文明古国，旅游资源十分丰富，被列入世界文化和自然遗产的就有40多处。
   中国旅游业的发展始于改革开放。三十多年来，旅游业已成为中国经济的支柱产业，中国己成为世界旅游强国。2012年，中国人年均出游超过两次。中国已成为全球第三大入境旅游接待国和第一大出境旅游国。旅游业快速发展，架起了中国与世界沟通的桥梁，促进了中国与各国的共同发展。中国政府高度重视旅游业发展，确定每年5月19日为“中国旅游日”。 《中华人民共和国旅游法》将于今年10月1日施行，这是中国旅游业发展史上的里程碑，必将促进中国旅游产业持续、健康的发展。
   目前，中国人均国内生产总值己超过6000美元，居民消费需求快速升级，人们旅游意愿显著增强。预计今后五年，中国旅游市场规模将达2万亿美元，出境旅游人数将超过4亿人次。到2015年，中国国内旅游人数将达40亿人次，入境旅游人数达1．36亿人次，中国公民出境人数达1．2亿人次。我们愿与世界各国分享中国旅游业发展成果，继续为世界旅游业发展做出积极贡献。

Today, I am very glad to meet you, friends from tourist industries of various countries, and discuss ways to promote development and cooperation of global tourism. On behalf of the Chinese government, I wish to extend my warm congratulations on the opening of this tourist summit and a very warm welcome to all of you!
   Tourism serves as a bridge for enhancing cultural exchanges and friendship. The tourist sector is not a resources-intensive one, and it creates a lot of jobs, so it is indeed a sunrise industry. Travel may improve one’s health and broaden one’s vision. As we Chinese often say: One gains a great deal from both reading 10,000 books and taking a 10,000-mile journey. China is a country with an ancient civilization and a long history, so it is rich in tourist resources. Over 40 tourist sites in China are on the world cultural and natural heritage list.
   China’s tourist industry began to develop when the country launched its reform and opening-up program. In the past three decades and more, tourism has developed into a pillar industry of the Chinese economy, and China has become a major tourist country in the world. In 2012, each Chinese citizen made more than two tourist visits on average. So far, China has become the third-largest tourist destination and the largest outbound tourist country in the world. With its rapid growth, Chinese tourist industry has become a bridge linking China with the rest of the world and promoted the common development of China and other countries. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of the tourist industry and has designated May 19 China Tourism Day. The Tourism Law of the People’s Republic of China will go into effect beginning on October 1 this year. This law is a milestone in the development of tourism in China, and it will help promote the sound and sustained growth of China’s tourism industry.
   As China’s per capita GDP has exceeded US$6,000, the citizens’ consumption demand has grown rapidly, and people are showing an increasing interest in travel. It is expected that in the next five years, the size of China’s tourist market will reach US$2 trillion, and the Chinese people will make over 400 million outbound visits. In 2015, the Chinese people will make 4 billion domestic visits, foreign tourists will pay 136 million visits to China and Chinese tourists will make 120 million outbound visits. We are ready to share the fruit of China’s booming tourism with other countries and continue to contribute to the development of global tourism.
