International Olympic Committee delegates praised Toronto’s plans to stage the 2008 Olympics, saying that they were impressed with the oily’s athlete-oriented focus.
Members of the IOC’s technical evaluation team, in town to review Toronto’s multibillion   dollar bid for the Games, offered a critique on March 11 of the city after a four-day courtship by Toronto’s Olympic bid committee.
Toronto is competing against Beijing, Osaka, Istanbul and Paris for the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.
Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC committee, said the commission was "impressed with Toronto’s excellent sport concept. "It sets aside reservations the IOC had made back in May about the city’s plans for an Olympic park which includes 25 venues, the Olympic village, botels and a media centre.
The IOC then appeared doubtful Toronto could build an Olympic park large enough to accommodate 25 of the 28 Olympic events all within a 6 kilometre radius along Toronto’s waterfront, without serious traffic congestion.
After visiting Toronto the same IOC team was set to travel to Istaubual and Paris to review the remaining two cities on the five - nation short list for hosting, the 2008 Summer Games.
The IOC will announce on July 13 which city has been chosen to host the 2008 Games.
