答案                 What Makes a Festive Spring Festival?
Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is one of the most important occasions in China. However, nowadays Chinese people think the festival is not as festive as it used to be. In my views, there are three ways in which we can make Spring Festival more enjoyable.
For individuals, we should add a human touch to the annual greetings. It is now a common practice to send messages through mobile phones to friends and relatives to deliver our good wishes in Spring Festival. Many of us just send out standardized well-wishing texts, copied or slightly modified from Internet. Convenient as this may be, people may doubt the sincerity of those who simply forward the one-size-fits-all messages. Therefore, we had better create some individualized messages to the recipients. We may also choose to phone others or pay them a visit to deliver our good wishes, which will make them happier. And they will certainly appreciate our efforts and feel the warmth of Spring Festival.
For families, it’s very important that elder people have more tolerance on youngsters’ choices of life. Traditionally, relatives of an extended family would gather together for a family reunion. This practice is still carried on, but with less emotional appeal. Younger generations are now hiding themselves from these reunion parties, for fear that they would be repeatedly asked about their marital plan, relationship status, salaries and other embarrassing issues. Nothing could be more annoying than this well-meant "interrogation". To enjoy the precious time of family reunions, elders should be less curious and judgmental on young people’s life.
For local governments, it is advisable to encourage some custom of celebrations to perk up the festive mood. For instance, fireworks and firecrackers were once the most appealing elements in the Chinese New Year. But they have been banned for the sake of citizen’s safety. Instead of a total ban, government could set up some designated areas for citizens to play fireworks and firecrackers. This measure will restore the happiness andnoisiness" of the festival, without evoking healthy concerns. Another measure which could be taken by the local governments is to stage some culture-specific activities and competitions, such as flower markets, lion dancing, temple fairs, and garden party. These cultural events will not only encourage people to contribute to an exciting festival, but also help pass on the centuries-long tradition forward.
To conclude, with our concerted efforts made by individuals, families and local governments, Chinese New Year could be as engaging and intriguing as ever.
