    With the development of science and technology, especially the extensive utilization of the Internet, coined words emerge in an endless stream. They are currently prevalent among the majority of students and Internet users, which serves as an evidence to show the vitality of net language and the progress of our era. While words are the means by which we understand others and express our own opinions, only when we accept the expressions can we enrich our language. Although some people consider coined words as meaningless and absurd, I hold the opinion that they are the products of social development and we should take an objective attitude toward them.
    Many factors contribute to the existence and prevalence of coined words. Revolutionary innovation marks their greatest characteristic. They can be extremely simple and concise in form but intricate and profound in meaning. These dynamically designed words tend to create a relaxed and jubilant atmosphere. Once individuals command these words, they could increase the pleasure and excitement in communication.  The nature of humor makes coined words attractive and prevailing among young people.
    It is precisely because of the advantages of coined words that they are accepted and widely used. Of course, everything has two sides. When new words give rise to sense of novelty among users, they cause inconvenience as well.
    New words in life and Internet spring up one after another, as a result, some unavoidably go beyond language standards. The spread of these words with mistakes, quaintness, and even grammar or structure errors must have adverse effects on standard language. What’s more, excessive innovation makes their followers too busy to attend to them. And the phenomenon that one undefined originality heels another causes anxiety and panic in the hearts of conservative people. Furthermore, since youngsters are relatively easy to jump on the bandwagon, these new words enjoy a higher popularity on campus. New words employed by these students in their utterances lead to teachers’ and parents’ confusion, resulting in new generation gaps.
    To sum up, coined words benefit language evolution tremendously and make communication immediate, succinct, and full of enjoyment. However, they are rife with vulgarity which is beyond our acceptability, and words difficult to understand, thus causing communicative inconvenience. So we should take an objective attitude toward them and make use of them wisely.
