Is English a Tool or a Subject?
There is no denying that English has become, in terms of student body and its score in standardized exams, one of the major subjects in our country’s education system.
It is universally convinced that English has served as the lingua franca of the globe. Economic activity and academic exchange adopt this language to negotiate and communicate. Thus English is taught and learned almost everywhere, especially in developed countries and emerging economies, like China and India, where intensified international exchange and world trade determine the country’s future. In turn, the learning of English is essential to those who wish to attain achievement in those countries. That is to say, for all English seems to be merely a subject today, it will surely become a useful tool in the future when necessity arises to its occasion.
Yu Minhong’s success best exemplifies this viewpoint. He was once a total loser in English learning. After a crucial change in his attitude toward English and in his way of learning, he soon mastered the language in one year, made his way into Peking University, and became an experienced English trainer, powerful speaker and successful entrepreneur. For him, English used to be a subject, but it has been a magic tool to gain confidence, to influence others and to make a living.
In conclusion, English is a learning subject for students but a tool for business. Learn English as a subject and use it as a tool and achieve your future with the help of it.
