    When asked whether English majors should study maths, different people hold different opinions. In my opinion, maths should be included in courses for English majors.
    First of all, on the one hand, the vast majority of people can’t get through a single day without using maths of some sort. English majors are no exception. The language of maths is numbers, not English letters. If we are well versed in this language of numbers, we can make important decisions and perform everyday tasks successfully. Maths can help us to shop wisely, buy the right insurance, and decorate our home within the budget. On the other hand, as a popular language, English can be a tool for future jobs. Maths helps to open the door to relatively well-paid jobs in fields that demand knowledge of maths. As English majors, if we don’t study maths, we will close the door to interesting jobs of high salary.
    Secondly, while English can make us eloquent in international communication, maths does help us cultivate a rational way of thinking, which is indispensable for the development of our capacities. Furthermore, studying maths is interesting and enjoyable. It enables us to distinguish right from wrong. The solution to a problem can bring people excitement and satisfaction.
    To sum up, maths is a boon; just imagine the planet without maths! We could have been in the prehistoric age if maths were not established. Therefore, it is necessary for English majors to study maths.
