W: Hey, Bob. You seem to be really thirsty.
M: Yeah, especially after a long time running. How much water do you drink every day?
W: (6-1)I guess about three liters—five or six of those 500-milliliter bottles.
M: Yeah, that’s a lot.(6-2)That’s about how much I drink. Yeah, I think I’m addicted to water.
W: Are you?
M: Yeah, it’s my security blanket. I must always have a bottle of water nearby to drink.
W: And you have a theory that I get thirstier the more bottled water I drink, don’t you?
M: Yeah, that’s right.(7-1)I think that in the water bottle people somehow put a special chemical that always makes you want to drink more water.
W: I agree.
M: Yeah.(1-2)Haven’t you noticed that if you drink a glass of tap water, you’re not thirsty after you finish the glass, but when you finish a bottle of water, you’re still thirsty?
W: One bottle is not enough. Yeah, definitely. For a glass of tap water I would rarely finish the glass, but for a bottle of bottled water, I need more, and like you said I need to know there is more close to me or I get upset.
M: Well, do you still drink tap water?
W: No, never.
M: Never?
W: (8)I cook with it but I don’t drink it.
M: Why?
W: Ah, it tastes not very good.
M: Yeah, it does taste pretty bad. Well, how is the water in England?
W: (9)It’s about the same. It’s drinkable in theory but it has this weird processed taste in it and doesn’t smell that good, so it’s supposed to be safe to drink but I don’t really believe that for a minute.
M: Actually the water in Northern California where I’m from is pretty good.
W: Is it?
M: Yeah. Ah, that’s the one thing you can drink from the tap but people still drink bottled water. Actually, I think the next time there’s a huge, massive world war, it might be over water.
W: Yes.
M: It’s kind of scary.
W: It’s like we live on a planet that is mostly water and we can’t manage it properly. There isn’t enough available water for everybody.
M: (10-1)Yeah, no kidding, so anyway, for all you people out there, remember, be thankful for your water.
W: (10-2)That’s just what I want to say. Saving water equals to saving our lives.
M: That’s a good point.
