Some people say the government shouldn’t spend money in building theaters, museums and stadiums, but should spend more money on medical care and education. Do you agree? Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 200 words, in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue.
Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.
YES
Health and education are the basic needs of people. We often say health is wealth. Without health, even if you are a millionaire, you will not be able to enjoy your life. The society needs better medical system to ensure that every patient is taken good care of. This is the first step of social development.
Our spiritual foundation is built by education. Only with more knowledge, can we catch up with the fast growing economy.
We need healthy body and brilliant mind to change our world into a better one. Theatres, museums and stadiums are signs for a higher standard of living. Compared with our basic needs, they are less important.
NO
First, stadiums provide ideal places for people to do physical exercises and get entertainment. After a whole week’s hardworking, people can enjoy a wonderful football game on the weekend, and refresh themselves with good relaxation there.
Second, museums serve as base areas for education. The British Museum, which is the largest museum in the world, provides visitors with knowledge about world culture and arts. Visitors to the museum are all overwhelmed by the magnificence of the cultural and historical displays featuring mankind’s achievements.
In addition, the performances shown in the theaters will also greatly enrich the lives of citizens. People can enjoy ballet, symphony, and Peking Opera in a theater, which contain the soul of Chinese and western cultures.

Should Government Put More Money in Building Theaters, Museums and Stadiums?
An argument often heard these days is. that whether or not the government should put more money in building theaters, museums and stadiums. Some believe that instead of spending money on these facilities, medical care and education should be given more money, while others argue against them. After weighing the pros and cons, my opinion is that there is nothing wrong with spending money on theaters, museums and stadiums.
Stadiums provide ideal places for people to relax themselves. After five days of hardworking, people can refresh themselves by doing physical exercises and enjoying a football game there. Exercises are to health what water is to fish. Physical exercises can benefit people a lot, which will surely ease the pressure of medical care. Moreover, they provide people a good opportunity to establish communion with each other, which will benefit people’s mental health.
Beyond this, it is also of paramount importance to use theaters and museums as the " social classroom" for cultural and historical education. The Sydney Opera House has come to define not only a city, but also an entire nation and continent. In addition, the performances shown in the theaters manifest the soul of human civilization. So, theaters and museums will greatly enrich the lives of people.
Certainly, medical care and education both play dominant roles, but building theaters, museums and stadiums will benefit not only the individual both mentally and physically, but also a nation as a whole permanently.
