As we all know, water is essential in our daily life. We drink water every day, we use water to wash things and cook food, and we also use water to make machines. In a word, people can’t live without water.
Though about 75% of the earth is covered with water, only 3% of it is fresh water. Even worse, some of it has been polluted. But at the same time our need for water is increasing rapidly—almost day by day. Let me give you just one small example of how necessary water is to agriculture and industry. Did you know that to produce a single ton of steel takes about 91, 000 liters of water? Besides, the droughts occurred in Yunnan province and Guizhou province in 2010 and Hunan province and Hubei province in spring of 2011 made a great loss to the people and the nation.
Therefore, we all have to learn how to stop wasting our precious water. For example, we can save water by having a shower instead of a bath. We can also save water by fixing dripping taps immediately. Moreover, governments should price eater to reflect its real value. Only if we take steps to deal with this problem now can we avoid a severe worldwide water shortage later on.
