In the literature on the subject, you can find references to the fetal origins of cancer, diabetes, obesity, mental illness.     As a journalist who covers science, I was intrigued when I first heard about fetal origins. But two years ago, when I began to dig more deeply into the field, I had a more personal motivation: I was newly pregnant.
