   Hello, everyone! Thanks for coming here for my speech. My topic is about goal setting, an issue particularly related to you -- the first-year college students. From the moment you stepped onto this campus, a new, exciting episode of your adult life started to unfold in front of you. Have you ever thought about how you are going to go through the following four years? Do you give yourself a meaningful, unforgettable experience? The first step to do so, in my opinion, is to set definite goals for your study and life right at the beginning of your college education.
   Why is setting goals so important? First of all, goals can help you do, be, and experience everything you want in fife. Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow yourself to take control and make your life happen. That is, goals are the guide in your long way to success. If you have a goal, it would be much easier for you to know what you should do next. Secondly, goals help you manage your time more efficiently. Time on campus is much more free and flexible. And time flies. Without goals to keep you on the right track, it’s easy for students to lose control of their time, wandering aimlessly from one day to another and ~mally ending up feeling like a failure. What’s more, goals are the impetus which stimulates you to make the most of your potential ability. Many successful people aim high, strive hard and make a miracle of themselves in the process of pursuing their goals.
   So let’s set goals and follow through on them. Think carefully: What are your strengths and weaknesses? What do you want in your life? What career do you hope to build? What preparations should you make for your future position in society? Find the answers and then get there by making plans and setting goals. Sometimes your dream or mission appear to be too large and too difficult to fulffil. In that case, you need to break it down into smaller, short-term goals, which will take you forward step by step to your final destination.
